Laser Scanning

3D laser scanning is a process that captures real-world objects, buildings, or environments as data to be used within 3D design platforms. It is a technology that has seen significant developments over the last 15 years, and continues to grow.

The key benefits of 3D laser scanning are comprehensive data collection and high accuracy.  It is especially useful when there is limited time or opportunity for data collection in the field, and for either hazardous sites or those with limited access.

Laser scanning captures every part of a survey area. The point cloud data is then used to produce large quantities of information which aids the production of accurate existing CAD plans or construction of 3D models. AutoCAD cross sections, elevations, internal floor plans and 3D models can be produced as required by all professions within the design, planning and construction industries.

3D data can also be converted into many formats recognised by particular software packages so that it can be utilised according to the needs and preferences of our clients.  OmegaGeo can also provide a consultancy service for those new to 3D scan data and provide instruction on how to import this data into software packages & how best to use it.

We work with AutoCAD, Revit, ReCap, Rhino, Bentley and many other industry-leading software on a daily basis.

OmegaGeo will discuss a project’s requirements before advising on whether scanning technology is the right tool for the job  in order to ensure it is the most cost-effective option for clients. There are several scanners on the market and the right scanner will be tasked to the correct project to obtain the greatest value and accuracy.
